Adam Elder gave a fascinating talk on "20 years of photography". Adam had a wide-ranging career including being a war photographer covering many modern conflicts. He was also the official Scottish Parliament photographer and a Sunday newspaper photographer. Adam's stories behind the taking of his pictures brought an additional powerful dimension to many of his iconic images. And who said "the camera never lies"; perhaps sometimes it might not apply to journalism?

Smoke & Mirrors by Rob Rogers

Rob Rogers gave a talk and workshop on "Smoke & Mirrors". Rob set up a black background with source of smoke (eg a josstick) and then produced some spectacular photos of smoke by varying the position of the handheld remote flash and camera. Several visitors and members brought their cameras and flashguns and produced many impressive images.

"Scotland: Around the Edges" by Duncan McEwan was a most inspiring talk with stunning photography and good advice on taking great pictures. It was a powerful exploration of the Scottish coastline and a portrayal of the images that can be created using sea, rocks, shore, sand, dunes, erosion, maritime history, weather and dramatic light. Duncan was a speaker not to be missed (and so was having a 'proper' slideshow in this digital age).

Liz Cole gave a most enjoyable talk on "Flower Macro Photography". Liz's images were wonderful and she gave members and visitors the benefit of her extensive knowledge of macro photography in a practical and informative way. A great choice of speaker to start the club's new season.
